Thank you to all attendees who joined us on 27 November 2024 for an engaging discussion on the EV White Paper. Some of the key highlights and actions out of the white paper include:
✅ Local Manufacturing Push: Progressing towards EV assembly and component manufacturing, with incentives set to potentially activate in 2026.
✅ Affordable EVs: Calls to reduce import duties on EVs and batteries to enhance market competitiveness.
✅ Infrastructure Expansion: Scaling up the EV charging network to over 500 public stations and exploring localised component production.
✅ Regional Collaboration: Plans to establish a SADC battery value chain, leveraging South Africa’s mineral resources.
The workshop also tackled the importance of harmonising standards, incentivising EV adoption through policy mechanisms, and ensuring equitable public and private EV initiatives.
